The Goo Goo Dolls were formed in Buffalo, New York in 1986 by founding members John Rzeznik (guitar, vocals) and Robby Takac (bass, vocals).
In their early years, the band played punk rock and heavy metal, releasing their debut album "Goo Goo Dolls" in 1987. However, they achieved their breakthrough success with their fourth album, "A Boy Named Goo," in 1995.
At the time of their earlier albums, Rzeznik and Takac were in their late 20s and early 30s, considered young for the music industry. However, compared to other bands that emerged around the same time, such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, the Goo Goo Dolls were not as young.
In recent interviews, Rzeznik has described the band's early days as having a "DIY spirit," playing shows and recording music on their own terms. The band's sound evolved over the years, from their early punk days to their later alternative rock hits like "Iris" and "Slide."
Today, Rzeznik and Takac continue to tour and record together as the Goo Goo Dolls, with a fanbase that spans several generations.
